STORYTELLING

Writing for Alumni, Students, and Donors

It’s important for communicators to connect with colleagues in advancement, admissions,  student affairs, and alumni affairs to identify stories that highlight the university experience for all of our audiences. Below are writing samples that focus on donors, students, and alumni. These were featured  online and in  college magazines.

Writing for Senior Leadership

I wrote the Buckeye Voices blog for Trudy Bartley, Assistant Vice President for Government Affairs and Executive Director for Partners Achieving Community Transformation. Over the course of a week, I worked with Trudy to create a blog post that captured the Near East Side’s history, her connection with the neighborhood, and the current revitalization efforts that are in-progress via PACT. The blog post, A Lesson in Revitalization was featured in Buckeye Voices on June 1, 2015. A copy can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATIONS

News Releases

2016 was an incredible year for the College of Veterinary Medicine. We made history, surpassed milestones, and delivered substantial contributions to enhance and advance veterinary medical education, research, and patient care at Ohio State and beyond. Our two largest gifts came from the Stanton Foundation and the Blue Buffalo Company. Below are the news releases.

In 2019, the Michael E. Moritz College of Law chose a new dean, Lincoln L. Davies, to lead the college. I was so excited to be a part of the announcement because it is important news for the university, the higher education community, and the legal market. It’s also a great opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in university communications to maximize our reach. Below you will find the news release.

Event Briefings – 2020 Vision Tour

During the summer of 2015, President Drake visited 11 counties in Ohio for his  2020 Vision Tour. The tours were a wonderful opportunity to learn about Ohio and the strength of the Ohio State reach beyond Franklin County. I was tasked to create briefing documents for each county visit for President Drake. They wanted something unlike the traditional template and preferred something with an “infographic feel”. For each county briefing, I researched key information such as the founding date, population, household data, historical facts, education statistics, and the names of the elected officials for each county.

Daily and Weekly Briefings

Government staff and senior University leadership. The first piece, Higher Education News, is a daily news briefing of the latest news in higher education. I would compile this one every morning and share it with staff, so they are aware of the latest happenings within higher education.  Week in Review was a collaborative piece. I work with our Government Affairs staff to identify content to share with senior leadership across campus.

  • Higher Education News– a daily news briefing of the latest news in higher education

  • Week in Review– a brief summary of issues, topics, and events that occurred in all three branches of government.
